GUILFORD ANNOUNCES MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT FOR GLIADEL® IMPLANTS

BALTIMORE, MD – June 6, 2002

Guilford Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: GLFD) announced today that it has granted exclusive rights to Orphan Australia Pty. Ltd. to market, sell and distribute its proprietary brain cancer implant, GLIADEL® Implants in Australia and New Zealand. GLIADEL® Implants are currently approved for use in 24 countries, including the United States, Canada and Australia, to treat recurrent glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive form of primary malignant brain cancer.
